Our vision & purpose:

Champion the craft of laughter, so that everyone can share a laugh.

We activate our purpose through:

  • The NZ International Comedy Festival, which makes Aotearoa the funniest place in the world each May.
  • An annual programme of awards and Trust-produced shows that support craft and career development, and showcase NZ comedy to live and TV audiences.
  • Programmes, workshops and other activities that give artists access to professional tools and capability support.
  • Advocacy activity that ensures the comedy community’s voice is at the table in key decision-making spaces.
  • Ways of working that uphold our values.

And we do this to:

  • Provide more supported and sustainable career development opportunities and pathways
  • Make comedy spaces more accessible and inclusive; and ensure comedy better reflects the diverse communities of Aotearoa
  • Strengthen the craft and reach of NZ comedy
  • Build connections and a sense of community across the comedy industry
  • Strengthen the comedy industry’s voice and story, so that comedy is a valued part of the culture of Aotearoa.

The New Zealand Comedy Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organisation. Since 1995, we’ve passionately showcased the most exciting comedians from both New Zealand and throughout the world at the annual NZ International Comedy Festival.

What you may not realise, is our team also works to support the wider comedy industry, with a specific focus on working with comedians to professionally develop their skills, network and establish themselves a career in comedy and wider creative sector.
